ORIGINAL EMERGENCY DECLARATION FROM MARCH 13, 2020

Due to the emerging public health concerns regarding potential exposure to the Novel Coronavirus 19 (CoVID-19), Mayor McTaggart has officially proclaimed a state of local disaster emergency in the City of Edwardsville. This declaration shall remain in effect for a period of seven days unless terminated or renewed after review and approval of the Edwardsville City Council. Mayor McTaggart also supports similar measures undertaken by the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas and the City of Bonner Springs.

In addition to this action, the City of Edwardsville is taking the following measures pursuant to recommendations from the Wyandotte County Public Health Department and federal guidelines:

  • The Spring 2020 Soccer season has been cancelled. Refunds for signups will be processed in the coming days.
  • Reservations at the Edwardsville Community Center have been cancelled and refunds and/or rescheduling are currently underway.
  • No further bookings will be accepted for the Edwardsville Community Center or City Park shelter house until further notice.
  • Cases set for the March 19th, 2020 Edwardsville Municipal Court have been rescheduled for a later docket and notices have been sent to the appropriate parties.
  • Additional precautions may be considered by public safety departments when responding to emergency calls in an effort to limit potential exposure to both staff and residents.

City staff would also like to take this time to encourage residents to take advantage of online options to pay or conduct City business whenever possible. Currently, individuals have the ability to make utility bill payments and municipal court fine payments online at www.edwardsvilleks.org. These and other functions can also be processed over the phone by dialing 913-356-6000 (ext. 1) and speaking with the City Hall Office Administrator.

At this time, Edwardsville City Hall will remain open to the public. Any changes to the procedures or strategies outlined above will be communicated through similar releases and through the City’s various online outlets.
