Animal Control
Animal Control is a division of the Police Department and all calls regarding vicious animals and/or animals at large are responded to by the Police Department. As such, fees for licensing and/or impoundment of an animal are to be collected by the clerk of the Police Department located at 650 S. 4th Street. Business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Animals six (6) months and older are required to be licensed with the city annually. To obtain a license you must provide proof of current rabies vaccination by a certified veterinarian. You can license/register your animal from January 1st through March 31st without a penalty fee. After March 31st, a $5.00 penalty fee will be assessed along with your licensing fee. Licensing fees are as follows:
$1.00 for animals that are spayed or neutered with proof of such from a certified veterinarian.
$2.00 for animals that are not spayed or neutered.
The City of Edwardsville has a Leash Law Ordinance and it is enforced by the Police Department. If animal control picks your animal up for any reason it will be taken to the Kaw Valley Veterinary Clinic located at 11600 Kaw Drive, Bonner Springs, Kansas (phone 913-441-3544). You, as the pet owner, will be responsible for all impound fees assessed by the Kaw Valley Veterinary Clinic as well as an administrative fee assessed by the city. Following is the fee schedule for impounded animals:

To retrieve your animal, you will need to provide proof of current rabies vaccination, obtain or provide proof of current licensing/registration, and pay all applicable fees to the clerk. You will then be given a release form to take to the Kaw Valley Veterinary Clinic to retrieve your animal. Please note, if your animal is picked up on a weekend or a holiday, you will have to wait until the next business day to retrieve your animal.
