INVESTIGATIONS

The Investigations Division within the Edwardsville Police Department is comprised of two Investigators.  Major crimes, financial crimes, suspicious deaths, unsolved "cold" cases, computer crimes, identity fraud, fugitive, narcotics and other prolonged investigations are handled by the Investigation Division. Investigators are available around the clock to respond to any major case.  Investigators have varying degrees of experience, training, and specialties.  Investigators cooperatively work with other local law enforcement agencies, The Department of Corrections, the FBI, DEA, ATF, local financial institutions, the State’s Attorney’s Office and others. Investigators routinely apply for and obtain search warrants, and arrest warrants. Investigators are committed to working in partnership with victims of crime, business owners, and citizens to help keep Edwardsville a safe city in which to live.

The Investigation Division is responsible for gathering criminal intelligence and performing criminal investigations for homicides, sexual assaults, Internet crimes, aggravated assaults, drug investigations, financial and computer frauds, larcenies, juvenile investigations, burglaries, robberies, capturing fugitives from justice, performing crime scene processing, etc.  The Investigators strive to provide efficient, quality customer service to the community they serve.

Accomplishments for 2006

Each year the Investigations Division is responsible for clearing investigations that result in felony and misdemeanor arrests for a variety of crimes. Many of the arrests made for major felony cases are prosecuted in Federal Court whereas a majority of arrest cases are cleared by conviction in Wyandotte County District Court. In addition to criminal arrests, property and evidence are seized or recovered during searches of buildings and homes clearing active cases in Edwardsville as well as for outside agencies. Investigators also take part in seizing drug dealers' assets such as vehicles, weapons and money obtained illegally through illicit connections.  A new crime that has gained much publicity is the enticement of minors over the internet.  Investigators are training and working with other agencies to interdict these predators.

Tips

We strongly encourage victims of crimes to make reports to police as soon as a crime is noticed rather than wait days, weeks or months to file a police report. We also support citizens following best practices in the industry to securing one's private information to prevent Internet frauds and Identity Theft.
