Junius Groves Days

The Governing Body of The City of Edwardsville recently proclaimed August 8th and 9th 2007 as “Junius Groves Days” in conjunction with the Kansas State Senate's Resolution 1853 proclaiming the same dates as "Kansas Exoduster Colonies' Days".

Groves Center Exoduster families of the late 1870's and 1880's made significant contributions to the City of Edwardsville, Kansas and surrounding areas.  The descendants of the Groves Center families have made their presence and influence felt in population growth, education, city development, science, religion, the professions and the arts.

The Exoduster descendants are returning from across the fifty states to the "Reconnections II" event on August 8th and 9th, 2007 to reconnect with family members.  The City of Edwardsville, in conjunction with Votaw Colony Museum, Inc., is hosting a celebration to honor Junius Groves and his decedents on Thursday, August 9th at 10:00am in the lawn of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church (2010 S. 98th Street, Edwardsville).  Please join us as we commemorate one of Edwardsville's most notable forefathers.
