The Union Pacific Rail Road has scheduled a stop in Edwardsville for the historic Big Boy Steam Engine. This is not an event sponsored by the City, but public safety staff have developed a plan to make the event run as smooth as possible.
The steam engine is scheduled to be at the Edwardsville stop at 4th St., just south of K-32, beginning at 5:15. The train is set to depart at 5:45.
Edwardsville Police Department will close 3rd St., 4th St., and Pacific St. from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 9th. The 9th St. crossing and I-435 should still be accessible for north/south traffic. We are encouraging attendees to park in the City Hall parking lot or the Community Center parking lot if they are attending the event. The train will be accessible via pedestrian access only. Barricades will be up to prevent thru-traffic.
Edwardsville Fire Department will have water station set up along 4th St., just north of the tracks. Kansas Highway Patrol and the Wyandotte County Sherriff's Office will also have a presence assisting with traffic control.
Heavier than normal traffic is expected, as well as early-comers looking to secure their spot to see the engine. Please be mindful of the additional activity in this area around this time.
